Every birth, marriage and death registered in England and Wales since 1837, moving from paper to database. Led the AI position on the Home Office procurement: achievable transcription accuracy, data modelling and transformation, and which suppliers could credibly deliver.
A new actuarial reserving platform, from baseline architecture to a live quarterly cycle, releasing CHF 30 million in reserves in its first cycle. Separately, the architecture and programme plan for using electronic health records in US life underwriting.
GP records are unstructured, inconsistently coded and frequently handwritten. We built a pipeline that read them regardless, and used it to identify non-disclosure in live life policies — a global first in automated underwriting. A second engagement established the architecture for detecting fraud in health claims across emerging markets.
Following a group acquisition, Police Mutual needed a clear view of its own business and applications landscape. We modelled it, identified where structures, processes and systems could be consolidated, and reported to the board.
Enterprise architecture for a FTSE 250 wealth manager's target operating model (Brewin Dolphin), and global PMO lead for a $9m document management programme across 36 countries and 20 EY member firms (AIG).
A portfolio of data warehousing projects for internal clients worldwide, and enterprise BI strategy for ACE's global treaty and multinational operations.

Background
The work I find most interesting sits at the join between a genuinely hard business problem and a technology that has only recently become good enough to solve it. That has meant OCR and NLP on health records, machine learning on claims fraud, and transcription AI on two centuries of handwritten civil registration.
I also still build. MyHallWizard is a booking and invoicing platform I wrote and run for community halls — Laravel, React and MySQL on AWS, now used by more than ninety halls worldwide. It keeps me honest about what a design costs to implement.
